Jun Kaneko was one of my teachers when I studied ceramics at the University of New Hampshire.  His influence on me was profound.  These sculptural pots are inspired by the dangos he was working on when I studied with him.

I mask the pots with tape to create the white portions of the design and apply black stain.  When it’s dry I remove the tape and apply a clear glaze, so the surfaces of these pieces are very different from my saggar- and pit-fired work.

I plan to make more of these.  We’ll just have to see what develops.
